Odd, but Awesome Gifts to Give This year

It's Christmas Eve, folks!

And since it's Christmas eve, I thought I'd share some of my favorite gift ideas. Being someone who enjoys giving the somewhat odd, but totally useful gift, I think some of you will appreciate some of these odd, but awesome gifts yourself, especially if you're frantically searching for a last-minute gift right now, like me.

Do you know someone who always has new, invention-worthy ideas? The idea to gift someone their own patent for their own invention came from my dad and his creative inventions. Last year, my dad came to me with a very incredible invention idea he's had, and I have to say, it's genius. So the first thing I did was research how to go about patenting a product idea. I went through loads and loads of scams, but absolutely loved the idea of being able to give my dad the gift of a patent to his very own invention.

Throughout my extensive searching, I found 2 Innovative.net who, to my surprise, has been working with inventors for over 20 years and they had a whole impressive list of the many things they help you with, including invention development, patenting, patent searches, patent applications and patent pending, licensing negotiations , prototyping, manufacturing, publicity and marketing among many other things involved in the tedious process of inventions.

Compared to the dozens of other invention "services" I'd looked into, 2 Innovative.net seems to offer far more services. Since they not only help with the patenting and other first steps necessary, but they also help all the way up to the marketing process and even idea development, these folks seemed to me the perfect option.

I feel like I might be able to give a pretty extravagant gift to my dad without having to worry about his ideas and inventions not being taken seriously. I feel like 2Innovative.net will walk him through the process without leaving him hanging, or pulling a scam. It also helps to know they have 20 years of experience.

So far, this will have been the best gift idea I've yet to come up with!

2.  A Goat & 2 Chickens.

No, that's not a joke or a metaphor.

It's literal. You can actually give a goat and 2 chickens as a gift.

In fact, you can purchase virtually any farm animal, including a cow for $650.

The kicker, or what makes this "gift" unique is how it works: you actually pay $100 for the goat & chickens and they go to a family in need. This is one of those charity gifts where you spend the money on charity and the loved on who was going to be the recipient of your gift gets honored by the charity. Sometimes you get a photo of the person/family who received the gift you purchased in the name of your loved one, other times you just get a certificate. Either way, charity options can allow you to really get creative while also giving to those in need, all in the name of someone you love!

This would be a nice, heart-warming gift to the big hearted person in your life who's always wanting to help others in need.

If I were going to give a gift like this, I would include it as a "side" gift, not the only gift. I'd probably like to be sure I included a special, sentimental gift just for the recipient too, and let the charity gift be like an appetizer, a side dish.

3. A Telescope or Microscope

If like me, you have someone on your "to-get-for list" who aspires to be a scientist, or just loves to study the stars, moon, I can't begin to tell you how perfect of a gift a telescope makes. That is what I got for my love last year for Christmas, a telescope. I searched high and low, read everything I could on the subject of what makes a telescope "good."  I ended up being able to get him the telescope that had the best ratings of all of them, and I had no idea how many awesome sights (and nights!) that gift would provide the both of us.

In fact, I never had a use in a telescope. Didn't think I'd care to look at the moon or stars up close. I've been looking at them from this far away for all my life, so why would they be any more interesting up close? That's what I thought until I got behind the lens.

Turned out we both have had amazing moments with his telescope, and it's one of the best gifts I've ever given him.

I, on the other hand, have had a little interest in using a microscope for a long time now. It's not a must-have and I'm certainly no scientist, but there have been several times that I've caught myself saying "man, I wish I could look at this through a microscope!"

I actually saw a kit that came with both a telescope and microscope tonight while out doing some last-minute Christmas shopping and thought how perfect that would be for someone who was interested in both!
What are the best, or most unique gifts you have ever given or received?

Leef Access Micro USB Connector and MiscoSD Reader (For Android)

The Leef Access is a micro USB connector and a microSD reader all in one, which is compatible with loads of Android devices. This fella is handy because it expands your device's memory capacity, allows you to share photos, transfer music between different devices. It also allows you to "enjoy playback of movies from a microSD card to your Android tablets and phones."

I absolutely love this handy, all-in-one little device because I can transfer almost any data to virtually every device I own. I can go back and forth between my phone and even share pictures from my phone to B's phone, or my mom's and vice versa. I love being able to get everyone's pictures on my own devices. Especially since I always get too excited to stop and take photos when something special is going on. So it's my mom and B who end up with the great pictures, and I'm left wishing I'd have taken them.

Now I can just snag theirs by sticking the Leef Access into their device, saving their photos/videos to it, then stickin' back in mine. A simple way to jack their photos once and for all.

Here's a pretty awesome video about Leef Access, straight from Leef's website:

You can see a list of devices compatible with the Leef Access here

Access requires Jelly Bean 4.1 or higher and an enabled USB OTG system.

System requirements for the Leef Access are:  Windows® 8, Windows® 7, Windows® XP (SP3), Windows Vista® (SP1, SP2), Windows 2000®, Apple® Mac OS X or later

To use Leef Access with a memory card, you simply slide the tiny memory card into the back slot, until it clicks in place. Then you can stick the USB end into an Android device. Otherwise, you simply stick the USB into the port for USBs on your computer, phone or wherever else. Access comes in 16, 32 and 64 GB. I love this tiny little thing's cool features.

In just this one itty bitty package, you have a Micro USB (for Android devices), a MicroSD reader and a MicroSD storage slot, which I thought was so cool. The two slots (the one for the memory card, and the storage slot) are located on top of each other, so they're easy to access.

Leef Access Micro SD Reader/USB Connecter's Cool Specs

-Superior case-compatible microUSB 2.0 connector

-Expands the memory capacity of your Android phone or tablet.
-Waterproof and dust-proof -Includes a storage slot for an extra microSD card and LED indicator. The cool LED feature, located on the side of the device, and comes on to indicate it's in use.

Organic Fundamental Face Scrub from Earth Turns *Review*

*Updated on 9/3/2014 -- Update at end of post.

Recently, I have had the amazing opportunity to try a few products available at Earth Turns, who happen to be a very friendly company that carries a variety of high quality products like supplements and natural/herbal products, and even a beauty department. All of the products Earth Turns carry are manufactured under Current Good Manufacturing Process Standards and are natural, safe and effective. At this moment, I've been focusing on the wonders of their Fundamental Face Scrub.

Before I get into the review for the Fundamental Face Scrub (which I'm loving, by the way), I wanted to take a second to include that Earth Turns has an A+ BBB rating, and at the moment, they're doing free shipping for  US orders! You really can't beat free shipping these days.

The Fundamental Face Scrub from Earth Turns uses organic ingredients that are effective (and totally safe) for any skincare concern. Aloe Vera, for example is like my miracle plant for everything. It's included in the ingredients, which obviously make this Face Scrub great at soothing and healing.

What I love about the Fundamental Face Scrub is that it's simple. It uses the ingredients necessary for maintaining and promoting healthy, clean skin without the use of those dang chemicals you find in most skincare products.

The Fundamental Face Scrub is a neutral pH and contains antioxidants.

The Fundamental Face Scrub is clear with a gel-like consistency. There are a few apricot kernels within the gel, and they're very gentle on skin.

Even though the ingredients are all great, it's not uncommon for my skin to still be dried out after washing with almost anything, so I was very impressed with how smooth and soft and totally not-dried out my face was after using this! My pores appeared a bit smaller, even and I was pretty satisfied to see that a lot of the breakouts I'd had were less inflamed and angry looking after using.

Why the Fundamental Face Scrub is So Fantastic
Aloe Vera soothes inflamed skin, is a natural anti-bacterial while honey moisturizes and is also a natural anti-bacterial, anti-biotic, and anti-microbial.

Spearmint Oil relaxes muscles and skin and combats acne.

Chamomile is an anti-septic and anti-spasmodic that helps heal wounds.

Apricot Kernels exfoliate skin.

Avocado oil hydrates, moisturizes.

Hops Extract increases blood flow, tones, and calms irritations.

Olive Leaf Extract is a natural anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory that soothes skin.

Ginger Extract is a natural anti-septic, and anti-inflammatory.

Balm Mint Extract an anti-spasmodic that soothes sensitive skin.

Yarrow Extract helps heal skin, regenerating damage, can provide relief from acne, reduce inflammation and redness.

Vitamin C  an antioxidant that balances skin's pH, restores elasticity, promotes healing, protects and repairs skin.

Grape Seed Extract is an anti-septic and anti-inflammatory that may also be helpful for hair loss. GSE contains antioxidants, which help prevent damage and repair previous damage.

Rosemary Extract is an anti-fungal, anti-microbial that also soothes irritation.

What I Love About Fundamental Face Scrub
  • No harsh ingredients or chemicals
  • Contains amazing ingredients that help heal skin like Aloe vera.
  • Neutral pH helps skin maintain its natural pH
  • Great for acne prone skin
  • Soothing
  • Not tested on animals, uses no animal ingredients
  • Contains certified organic herbs

The Fundamental Face Scrub is most certainly a skincare product I'd happily adopt into my long-term (forever and ever) skincare routine simply due to the fact that those ingredients are just what "works" for my odd, combination skin. Plus, with Earth Turns' prices, I'm happy to adopt it as a regular part of my skincare routine without feeling guilty for spending. Very affordable for all the help it does for my skin. And it's a product that doesn't require a bunch per use, so it's long-lasting.

I tend to require a lot of soothing and healing due to some previous breakouts that left minor scarring, and some breakouts that are recurring. So, aloe vera and the rest of the ingredients are really useful, especially since combination skin means both oily and dry. The natural ingredients like honey and avocado oil are useful for adding enough hydration without causing oily skin.

I've never been able to get by without a moisturizer though, (even when I've smothered my skin in olive oil!), so I love using the Fundamental Face Cream I have from Earth Turns in combination with this.

How do you guys feel about organic skincare products? Are you currently using organic? If so, what are your favorites and what do you love about them? I love hearing from you lovely folks.

Stay tuned for my upcoming review on the Face Cream from Earth Turns, which I am absolutely madly and insanely in love with!

UPDATE:

I wasn't sure where in the review would be the proper place to add an update like this, and since this post has already gotten so many views, I figured I'd just post it at the bottom, that way everyone, including folks who've already read this will be able to see there's been an update & quickly scroll to it.

So, I wanted to update to say that not even a week after I ran out of the Fundamental Face scrub samples did I notice major acne flare ups, which were there as I began the Fundamental scrub, but had cleared up dramatically. I wasn't 100% sure the scrub here was to be credited for this amazing clearing on my skin since I'd been trying so much other things, but now I feel comfortable stating that this facial scrub was at least contributing greatly to the positive effects on my skin.

My skin was looking fabulous while using the Fundamental scrub. I mean it was perfectly hydrated, nice and glow-y, and since I'd been combining it with the Fundamental lotions, it was supple and smooth! I noticed acne turning into little dark spots and peeling away, revealing healthy skin underneath instead of scarring. In fact, I even thought my previous acne scars seemed to be less noticeable.

I wasn't 100% sure the Fundamental scrub was all the reason for these improvements until after I quit using it. I can say that I've had the acne under control the past week, for once! But I had to quit using any kind of soap (even the organic stuff) and only use aloe vera for cleaning.

It had gotten to the point where nothing was helping. I'm feeling relieved that it's looking better right now, but will feel even better to finally order the Fundamental Scrub so that I can actually cleanse and keep things under control.
In fact, I was quite disappointed upon running out of the stuff & after the whole new acne flare up coming back, I've been working on purchasing the full sized product. I do hope that this is a product that will continue to benefit my skin, even after long term use, and I feel like it will, so I'm pretty confident in spending $ on it. Will update & let you guys know if any changes occur!

Seabuckthorn Powder and Oil

These Seabuckthorn products below are (from left) Natura-Nutra's Sea Buckthorn Extract powder and the Sea Buckthorn oil. Both are truly magnificent products, so I want to discuss my experience (as well as everything else there is to know about them) with both, starting with the Sea Buckthorn extract powder.

Since I desperately needed extra Vitamin C in my diet (as well as other things), and after learning the benefits of Sea Buckthorn, I had to try it.

The Sea Buckthorn Extract Powder is the one in  the white bottle that you see pictured on the left above. Both the extract powder and the oil come from Natura-Nutra, an incredible company that manufactures Sea Buckthorn skincare products along with the dietary supplements.

Natura-Nutra's products are all-natural, and contain high potency seabuckthorn.

That's just a little bit about the company I've come to really love for their Sea Buckthorn products! Now, for those of you who are not aware of Seabuckthorn and the benefits, I will explain...

Seabuckthorn is a  and as you can see on the image on the Natura-Nutra products, Seabuckthorn is a bright orange berry. Seabuckthorn berries have a very tart/sour taste them, which also is noticeable when consumed in the powder extract form, but not intolerable to the palate.

Seabuckthorn or "Hippophae L." is one of only 7 species of berries found in Europe and Asia. The berries are nutritious and edible.

The benefits of Seabuckthorn are due to the content of phytochemicals. Phytochemicals are anti-inflammatory, may prevent cancer, great for the digestive system, etc. I will go into more benefit-detail momentarily.

Also, the health benefits come from the high Vitamin C content since the fruit has an average content of about 15 times greater than what is found in oranges. Not only that, but it's also high in caratenoids, amino acids, polyphenols, flavanoids and Vitamin E.

Seabuckthorn has been used throughout history in traditional medicine to treat many sorts of disease. It has been used as an herbal remedy in China and Asia for centuries to improve coughs, blood circulation, digestion and more. It's also used to alleviate pain.

The leaves and bark of the plant have been used to treat diarrhea and     dermatological disorders. Seabuckthorn has hemostatic and anti-inflammatory properties, which is why it's also been used in medications for pulmonary, cardiac, blood, gastrointestinal and metabolic disorders in Indian, Chinese and Tibetan medicines.

Natura-Nutra has a great website with information about Seabuckthorn products available. You can visit by clicking here. And you can find the Seabuckthorn products at Herbs Best Nutrition.

This is the Sea Buckthorn Extract Powder. It comes in a 150 gram bottle. Natura-Nutra's Seabuckthorn Extract powder is approved by Health Canada as a Natural Health Product.

"Natura-Nutra Sea Buckthorn Extract is a high potency powder extracted from manually-harvested Sea Buckthorn berries. Every gram of the extract is equivalent to four grams of berries. This extract is ideal for making drinks or fruit shake. Add 1-3 tea spoonful of the extract into water, stir well and you just made yourself a tasty Sea Buckthorn drink. The powder extract can also be added together with your favorite fruits, to make your fruit mix more delicious and nutritious. Adults take 1-3 tea spoons per day."

I get picture-happy, and since Blogger distorts my photos, they do look funny, so forgive me for that. Anyways, you can see the rich orange-y color of the Sea Buckthorn Powder Extract. It's a very fine powder with a tangy/tart taste. It isn't very sweet, but goes down easily enough when mixed in a glass of water. On the other hand, it also is easy to drink when mixed with a little flavoring added to your water. It can also be mixed into food. I think it adds a nice tart flavor to a rich smoothie.

Most of the time, I just add a spoon to my water bottle and drink it throughout the day. My bottle holds 3.5 cups of water, so adding the one serving to that amount of water is super easy to drink since I don't taste much of it. I just close the lid and shake it very well. You need to stir or shake well (I think shaking works best) because it will settle at the bottom.

If you just don't like having to drink it, Natura Nutra also has it available on Herbs Best Nutrition in a capsule-form. You can find those here.

What are the benefits of Sea Buckthorn Extract Powder?

Sea Buckthorn Powder has high-potency antioxidants, which are amazing because they fight against free radicals, help prevent disease and cancer, etc. Here are some of the benefits of the Sea Buckthorn Extract Powder:

  • Contains over 190 well balanced and bioactive phytonutrients, including 42 lipids, 20 mineral elements, flavanoids, minerals, Vitamin A, B, C, and natural E complex, K and more.
  • The vitamin C content in Sea Buckthorn Extract Powder is more than any fruit we consume.
  • The antioxidant dismutase is 4 times stronger than Ginseng
  • Mostly used for celluar support, tissue repair, cardiovascular protection and antioxidation.
  • Traditionally used in Russia, Mongolia, and Tibet for its great effect in cough relief, anti-ulcer, promoting immunity and energy.
And even more! Sea Buckthorn contains organic acids, amino acids folic acid, tocopherols, phenols, terpenes and tannins! Im-press-ive!

Let me talk a little bit more about the awesome nutrients and stuff available in Sea Buckthorn.

- Sea Buckthorn contains about 40% of Omega-7. Omega-7 is a nutrient, a rare one and it has the ability to build up skin and membrane cells.

-The antioxidant dismutase is 4 x's stronger than Ginseng.

-Sea Buckthorn is the only plant source that contains Omega 3, 6, 7 and 9 fatty acids.

-Sea Buckthorn helps your body fight against disease and boosts  energy levels (due to the high nutrient and vitamin content.)

-Sea Buckthorn is good for gastrointestinal health since it's an anti-inflammatory and anti-ulcer.

-It also has cardiovascular health benefits since it's a rich source of fatty acids that help reduce cholesterol, blood pressure and inhibit blood platelet aggregation.

-Let's just call Sea Buckthorn a panacea at this point because it seems to help everything, including weight loss. Due to its Omega-7 content, it signals the body to stop storing fat.

And this one is the Seabuckthorn Oil, also an amazing product. I like the Seabuckthorn Oil becase it's so easy to take. Since it comes in a glass bottle (50 mL) that has a dropper style lid. This means all I have to do is screw the lid off, suck the oil up into the dropper and stick it in my mouth! Easy and quick. The taste isn't bad at all. It goes down easily and has an oily taste, as would be expected. It does have a berry-like flavor, but nothing that compares to any fruit I've eaten before. I guess it could best be described as a flavor similar to orange, but really, that isn't it either.

"Natura-Nutra Sea Buckthorn Berry oil is processed using most advanced supercritical CO2 extraction technology free from industrial solvents. Supercritical CO2 extraction preserves the nutrients in the natural form and leaves no trace of solvent in the final product. The supercritical CO2 extracted oil is then bottled in nitrogen chamber, which removes the oxygen from the air. In this package, the freshness of the sea buckthorn oil can be preserved without compromise from oxidation."

Instructions:
"This oil can be consumed after 50:50 dilution with olive oil or added to any health food combination. Some prefer taking them orally directly. Alternatively this oil can also be used topically as a natural healing aid, or to help the treatment for problem skins. Adults take 2-3ml a day."

As you can see, the Sea Buckthorn Oil is a rich yellow/orange color. This is because of the color of Seabuck berries. They are orange. In fact, if I ever came across a seabuckthorn product that was not orange or yellow tinted, I'd be suspicious because I would get the impression it didn't actually contain seabuckthorn. You have to be careful where you buy because believe it or not, companies will do that. As for Natura-Nutra, everything is wonderful.

Seabuckthorn Oil contains the richest source of Omega-7. Omega 7's are the "building blocks" for the skin and membrane cells. Seabuckthorn is also one of the most nutrient dense fruit in the world and contains more than 190 phytonutrients and active ingredients.

Seabuckthorn Oil also contains Omega 3, 6, 7, and 9! It contains herbal flavanones, antioxidants, minerals, Vitamins A, B1, B2, C, D, E and K!

Since it contains Omega 7, it helps skin and membrane cells. To see Seabuckthorn's nutritional profile and comparisons between Seabuckthorn and other things such as oranges, go here.  Pretty amazing!

I'll give you one that's listed there: an orange contains 60 mg/100 grams of Vitamin C. A kiwi, 98-180 mg/100 grams  of Vitamin C and Seabuckthorn: 690 mg/100 grams of Vitamin C! There really is a lot of that great stuff in there.

And since we're discussing Vitamin C, did you know that (from what I've read) when you take in a certain amount of vitamin C (more than just that daily dose of 1,000 mg) no virus can survive in the body? Actually, what I read said that at 10,000 mg of Vitamin C, no virus can survive in the body, to be exact. I believe the source was a CD I listened to, but can't think of the author for the life of me. Sorry. Look into it, though and do look into the comparison I linked to a couple paragraphs ago. It's shocking how Seabuckthorn tops other fruits.

Some of the benefits of using Seabuckthorn oil include cellular support, skin health, cardiovascular and gastro-intestinal protection. While we're on that subject, I want to add that I have noticed a more soothed digestive system in the time (more than 2 months) that I've been taking Natura Nutra's Seabuckthorn Oil and Extract Powder. It seems the Extract Powder has lasted longer, but I really love the both of them.

Seabuckthorn also has anti-inflammatory properties, which could also explain the reduction in problems I've had with my stomach/digestive system as well as tooth issues! I used the Seabuckthorn oil to do a small oil-pull (didn't want to do a lot since I didn't want to use all my Seabuckthorn oil on that) and found that it soothed my gums and made my root canal feel far less sensitive! I've used olive oil, sunflower oil and coconut oil to oil pull and I do think Seabuckthorn seems to perform just as if not better than those. I hated the taste of the coconut, but the Seabuckthorn oil is not extremely strong tasting, so it's very tolerable.

Seabuckthorn has many great healing effects, basically, these can be experienced throughout the entire body from what I've read. Anywhere there's a problem, it seems Seabuckthorn is quite efficient in relieving it. From teeth issues to skin issues, to organ prolapse, it really seems to have benefits in every single area I've looked into. It helps with tissue repair and when used externally, it blocks UV and improves skin. Natura-Nutra's liquid oil can be used topically and internal. Many people have great benefits when using it on the skin for problem spots (of nearly any kind!)

P.S. We've used this Sea Buckthorn oil on everything, including bug bites & I will say, there's nothing I've seen quite like Sea Buckthorn Oil for things like bug bites. We've used it for that many times. The first was when my neice came back from camping and was so covered, all over, in bites. I just grabbed the Sea Buckthorn Oil and covered her arms & legs with it & soon after, I asked how the bites were. She said she hadn't itched since we put it on her & when I looked at where all the red, bumpy bites were, they were gone! It actually stopped the itching for good & the bites just went away. There was no redness or anything.

Then, the other day, my sister, me and my partner had all been bitten by mosquitos, I guess. We put the Sea Buckthorn oil on the bites & her's went away instantly, just like my neice's did. Mine never itched again, but my partner's was pretty bad & he did have itching for a few minutes after applying, so he had to apply two layers of it.

So, next time you have itchy bug bites, remember Sea Buckthorn Oil! It's amazing for treating the itch & keeping it away.

Seabuckthorn is considered a super-fruit, and rightly so. It helps boost the immune system protects the health of respiratory, digestive and urogenital tract. Seriously, this stuff has tons of benefits I don't think I'll be able to name all!

Weird cooter product #3 VA J-J VISOR

While on my "cooter journey," I happened to come across the "Va J-J VISOR" it's this little protector thingy that's supposed to protect your inner parts from things like depillatories, epilators, or you can use it if you get electrolysis, or for people like me who tan a lot. It protects that little sliver of your Va jay jay. Only the inside labia though.

So, it's cute, comes in pretty colors, but I don't much see the point in protecting
that tiny sliver of your body from UV rays while the rest of your body is unprotected while you tan. Now for use while depillatory-ing, I could see it being a bit useful.

Also it's supposed to come in handy for when you shave that area. It looks uncomfortable though & it seems that you have to "hold" it in there with your muscles. Who the hell could do that while shaving?

Myth or Fact?

Coffee sobers you up.    Myth or fact?

Actually many people believe that a cup of coffee will help sober you up after a long night of drinking. MYTH. Studies show that coffee does nothing to help you sober up, if anything it makes it worse. And can make you sick.
