Super Energy/Protein shot -- energy that's easy to DIY!

SUPER ENERGY & PROTEIN SHOT

Put this in your shot glass:

1. Half a scoop of Whey Protein (or even wheatgrass if you're a real trooper!)

2. Fill halfway full with instant coffee (Maxwell House is my preference)

3. Fill rest of the way full with creamer (I prefer vanilla, but used caramel in this one, which is tasty too!)

4. Stir to keep the protein powder and coffee from settling at bottom.
5. Turn em' up!

Now you have one hell of a tasty (strong, but tasty) energy shot!  I LOVE these. It's quick, easy, somewhat healthy (despite the creamer) and gives me a huge energy boost before work or excersizing, or hell, because I'm sluggish.

Humboldt Blend-perfect!

Now that I've been crazy on caffeine all week, let's get back to the Muddy Waters coffee . I finally got got to the Humboldt Blend and am wondering why I didn't try it first! It has topped them all. My absolute favorite now and I doubt any coffee could live up. Of course I was very fond of the other blends, this one fit my tastebuds like customized undies!

Something I've noticed over the last couple of months is that drinking the coffee on the day I have IBS flare-ups, it isn't getting worse. You see, for years I've not been able to touch coffee on the days I have stomach flare-ups. It would make it much worse so I'd often be skipping coffee every month for a week. I've been able to drink all the Muddy Waters blends without a single problem! It must be that their coffee is organic. I had no idea that was my problem. I had a terribly flare-up the Sunday before last. I was running on no sleep from being up all night and morning feeling sick. I was so exhausted at the end of the day from lack of sleep, having the kids all weekend and being sick. I refused my coffee all day, but was desperate by nighttime because I had to work. So I had a small cup in fear that it would make things worse as coffee usually does, but I actually have been able to drink Muddy Waters just fine! Who'd have known?

Besides that, I want to talk about the flavor of the Humboldt blend--fantastic! First though, I wanted to share my grandmother's little testimony. Ha-Ha. We fixed her and my aunt some of the Blue's Blend--they're both major coffee nuts and my grandmother insisted that I share her comments here and with Muddy Waters. She said "it's the best coffee I've ever tasted. You be sure you tell them all I said this, OK?" She said it also had her wired. Ha. Ha. She said she hadn't had coffee give her energy in years!

As for my aunt, she loved it but said it was making her too energetic. I have no idea what it is about this coffee, but it must be stronger than most. When my grandmother visited again last weekend, she asked for more of the Blue's Blend.

The Humboldt blend is the perfect mix of acidity and nutty flavor. It's got more of a really strong flavor than an acidic flavor though. You can smell the acidity in it, but it's subtle enough that I can drink it straight and totally love it! I have a cup right now--well, a half a cup now. It has to be my favorite.

There's the hint of nutty flavor in the Humboldt blend and what I love about it is that you can add a bit of sweetener and stick it in the fridge without it watering down and losing it's flavor. It also has a sweetness to it, enough that I can drink it with no sweetener at all. I do like to add 3 caramel creamers sometimes though. That's what I like best, is you can add to it without it taking away from the actual flavor.

The strength is just enough where you can drink it straight without it overpowering your tastebuds as well as put it on ice without it watering down. It's a fabulous blend. The aftertaste is great. I would describe it as potent, but not bitter.

The aroma is stronger than what I noticed with the other blends. It smells bitter while it's in the coffee maker and the aroma lingers all throughout the house--just what I love.

Deep Blues Blend-Muddy Waters Coffee. Wake Up Your Soul

The photo above is a lovely collection of Coffee from Muddy Waters, a company that sells organic coffee. "To be certified organic this means that the crop’s soil and plants must be inspected by an independent organic certifying body, to be free of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and other potentially harmful chemicals for at least three years time. Muddy Waters Coffee Company maintains a large inventory of organic coffees.

Our Philosophy

"Muddy Waters Coffee Company takes the time to choose only the highest-quality arabica organic coffees that are sustainable, shade-grown, and conservation certified. We roast our own coffee daily, ensuring quality and freshness. We have gained awards for our coffee, as well as accolades from such coffee notables as Kenneth Davids, coffee guru, authority, and author of several books on the subject of coffee."

For more information about Muddy Waters and their coffees, go here.  They've provided a great deal of information on their coffee and what you can expect. A very respectful, fine, high quality brand!

"Our most popular blend, the Deep Blues Blend was inspired by legendary bluesman Muddy Waters and combines the full body and earthy flavor of Sumatra with the spice and cocoa accents of Peru to full complementation. This blend is full bodied and deep flavored but maintains a sweet undertone. An ideal fusion of flavor thoughtfully created to “Wake up your soul.”

As of earlier today, I've been filling my coffee cup with Muddy Waters' Deep Blue Blend of Organic Dark Roast Coffee. I have to say, this is some fantastic coffee! Move over Starbuck's! This is the kind of stuff us coffee lovers (coffee snobs?) drool over.

When the coffee arrived,--I had been anticipating the taste-- I realized my coffee maker was broken! I had been doing the instant stuff. I couldn't wait so first I began an experiment in a pot of boiling water, which didn't quite do this lovely, rich coffee justice so I sent my mom out to buy a new coffee maker! Much, much better.

                                                          TASTE
This was our first time trying Muddy Waters' coffee, but I had seen and heard about their blends and the fabulous variety so I was overly excited. Reading it and smelling the coffee, I had no doubt that it was going to rock. My mom, sister, boyfriend and dad sat staring into the coffee machine waiting. My dad and boyfriend drink it black, no creamer, nothing. I however, like a little sweetness. I add a bit of creamer or milk to mine. This particular blend doesn't even need creamer. It tastes great alone. I tend to like my coffee cold so after trying it hot, I stuck mine in the freezer for a while to let it cool. Fabulous! I could really taste the "earthy" flavor that way.

The Deep Blues Blend tastes exactly how it is described; earthy, rich. There's a tiny hint of maple to me. Nobody else seemed to notice that so it could be that mine was cold.

This particular blend is unique and bold with an incredibly rich taste and smell. Talk about the house smelling like heaven! It has that deep richness to it, unlike what you taste in a cup from Starbuck's or Mcdonald's. You also won't experience the funk-aftertaste that sometimes occurs in coffee. I don't think I've had coffee that didn't leave me with a need to brush my tongue afterwards. Muddy Waters coffee doesn't leave you with the bitter tongue.

As you may have seen in the photos, at the top of the coffee bag, it says "wake up your senses." That was a perfect way to put it. This rich, earthy blend does exactly that. This had us going! I don't know what about this coffee has that extra kick, but it woke us right up-- I didn't think my Lovie would ever stop talking! Our normal coffee hasn't perked us up like that since we first used it. There's something special about this stuff, for sure.

To sum it up, this is a high quality, fresh, delicious coffee. The kind I like to smell and drink every single day. "Fair trade means you are truly getting your money's worth, and after tasting this, I'm positive that Muddy Waters offers nothing but the best. I am impressed! A 10 star coffee, no doubt!

The Deep Blues Blend is available in bean or ground. Be sure to check out all the intriguing blends Muddy Waters has to offer! They even have one called Planned Parenthood. That has me interested! In the meantime, I'll be trying the other coffees and reporting back! I can't wait to try the others. And if you're as interested in Muddy Waters as I am, feel free to go read their brief history and oh so interesting information available here
