Merry Go Round calms my thoughts

SUN FEATHER'S STORY--How it began

"SunFeather’s history began in the fall of 1979, when founder Sandy Maine blended a passion for fragrant and medicinal herbs with a fascination and skill for soapmaking. With a core value that a business can deliver positive products to consumers, Sandy pooled her talents and started SunFeather in her backyard with a vat of bubbling oil and $15.00 worth of local cedar oil.

For five years (while the business grew), Sandy hauled water in 5-gallon pails from a nearby spring to her farmhouse, which provided a peaceful setting and crystal clear water for making soap. Because she lived beyond the power lines (utilizing only a small generator and no telephone), all business was initially done by mail. Sandy visited the nearby town twice each week to place phone calls to customers. During that time, Saturday nights with her husband Louie were often spent wrapping and labeling soaps for shipment.

As the business grew, employees joined the business to help with the increasing workload. Eventually, Sandy gave up her role as soap maker and focused on product development, sales and marketing. Sandy’s work expanded to include authorship of numerous articles and books on soapmaking, herbal homekeeping and succeeding in business. Sandy’s work has expanded the appreciation and use of handmade soaps in ways she never anticipated. Sandy continues her product development legacy as we maintain the company’s founding philosophies. Great soap is here to stay!"

I enjoy learning about a company's history so I usually try to post those interesting things here. How neat is that story? Now that's some real passion!

So, I have been sampling a few of those cute mini Sun Feather soap bars these past couple of days and they are so nice! When I opened the package, my nose was greeted with the most lovely, clean and relaxing scent! I swear I heard "calm, relax, take the day off." Ha. Ha. Kidding, but I was certainly regretting not having the soap an hour earlier--when I took my shower. Instead, I reserved extra time for a bath so I could really enjoy these mini bars.

The one I used that night was Merry Go Round.

~ As long as your child is NOT allergic to ANY of the ingredients in Merry Go Round the soap is "Great for kids!" Please be sure to carefully check the ingredients before using on a child and be careful when introducing new ingredients into a child's bath. You wouldn't introduce more than one fruit into a child's diet at a time and same goes for the bath. Just a little caution I felt needed to be thrown out there before I go recommending you use it on your child. Please use your own judgement!

~Artisinal handcrafted soap.

~Paraben-free, gluten-free and soy-free soap.

~Plant-based soaps formulated with certified organic base oils.

~ Scented with essential oils and natural aromatics.

 INGREDIENTS:
Saponified Oils of Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil*, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*and Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil*, Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Oil, Citrus Limonium (Lemon) Oil, Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Oil, Mentha Spicata (Spearmint) Oil, Lavandula Hybrida (Lavender) Oil, Citrus Grandis (White Grapefruit) oil, Chromium Hydroxide, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide, Annatto Extract, Beta Carotene (Natural Colors), Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract. * Made with certified organic oils.

-You've read my thoughts on coconut oil--love it! It's amazing for the skin and can be used internally as well (not by eating soap though). It has wonderful properties including healing, softening and is the best thing for dry skin! It can be helpful for issues like eczema and psoriasis as well.

As some of you may already know, essential oils can be really good for the skin, depending on what kind you are using. I'm not 100% sure what is in Sun Feathers soaps as far as "essential oils and natural aromatics" goes. However, there's nothing like the scent of natural aromatics! It's the most pleasant scent I've ever smelled.

I know I've mentioned this before, but there's this shop down town called All Things Groovy, the neatest little place we used to shop at as kids. It's been a couple years since I've been in there, but they sell nice natural soaps and scents and ever since my nose first walked into that shop, I've been in love with that natural, aromatic scent. My Lovie and I were sniffing all the Sun Feather samples and were in pure bliss! We've decided we want our entire home to smell this way. So I've decided to try Sun Feather's spritzers too! Sunfeather also sells candles and other neat products as well!

As for Merry Go Round, I thought it was the cutest bar of soap I'd ever seen. If you can see in my picture, it's colorful and has neat little circles in it. Such an interesting little guy! I tend to stay away from bar soap because it always has this weird smell to it--almost stinky like very unclean body odor and I'm not talkin' about arm pits! However, the lovely aroma of Sunfeathers soap does not have that bar soap smell. While I was able to smell it while in its plastic wrap, it isn't over powering or strong. After my shower, I'm unable to smell it on my skin, although it would not bother me if I walked around all day smelling like Merry Go Round!

  The Smell
I can't exactly put my finger on one particular scent with the Merry Go Round soap. It's more like a mixture of several different things. I can sniff it one minute and detect lemon and sniff again and my nose reports back with something of a floral note. Merry Go Round is the perfect soap for the person who needs to be and feel squeaky clean. With lemon, lime, tangerine and spearmint, you're going to be left clean--no doubt! Lemon is a lovely scent and I can detect it in this soap well, but at times, I'm able to smell the tangerine. Before I knew what scent it was, I guessed lemon/verbena and orange! Very close. The minty smell is subtle making all of these scents blend together for the perfect aroma of cleanliness. Plus, the mini bar fits like it's customized for your hand. If you kid is not allergic to any of the ingredients, this would be the perfect bar for them. Small enough for their little hands.

I rubbed myself down all over twice with Merry Go Round. From behind my ears all the way to my toes! I couldn't get enough of it. I may be a weird-o, but with regular store-bought bar soap and even, ahem, Tom's Of Maine's natural bars, I am always left with this squeaky-ish film and bath water that looks like milk. It icks me out a little. I don't know what causes it, but it irritates me. Since I've never used a bar soap that did not do this, I expected it with Sunfeather's soap, but quickly decided that if it did do that, I'd not mind because it's so beautiful smelling! Thankfully, it didn't leave my water near as white/milky as any other soap. I'm not even sure that white water means something bad, it's just something I don't love about most bar soap. I really was impressed after seeing that my water wasn't totally white--and I used A LOT!

When I said Merry Go Round is the perfect soap for the person who needs to feel totally clean, I meant it! It's not the type of soap that leaves you with the feeling of a film, something that simply makes you smell nice rather than clean you. I feel nice and clean with this soap. I also feel relaxed with the scent, especially the soap that has lavendar in it, which I will be reviewing soon! If you like to relax or take your bath before bed, Sunfeather's lavendar soap is a God-send. Also, know that lavendar is a natural relaxant (is that a word?) so as long as you or your child is not allergic to the ingredients, that is a perfect before bed soap to use.

Before leaving my bath, I had to take a few minutes to just hang out with the lovely scent. My mind usually raes with thoughts while showering. My to-do list starts yelling at me, but I felt nice and calm bathing with Merry Go Round. Sunfeather's scents are incredibly relaxing. Forget therapy! Take a bath with Merry Go Round. (OK, if you really need therapy, please don't call your therapist and say "Kendra told me I won't be needing you today." Ha Ha.)

To sum it up, I'm quite impressed with Sunfeathers soap. Not only is it adorable, the relaxing scents are a must-have! I'm determined to try them all.
