Ya'll my know that a good fragrance is something I hold very dear to my heart. So I was looking into new fragrances, something different from my everyday scents, which are pretty similar to each other. I wanted to try out something totally different. So I found several fragrances that really stood out to me from the lovely Penhaligon's. I want to share my experiences with the different samples of Penhaligon's perfume I ended up with.

"Created in 1911, this elegant cologne was created for Sir Percy Croft of the Croft port dynasty and named after the port producing region in Portugal; the Douro Valley. This stylish and mellow delight begins with sharp green limes and soapy bergamot, blending with garden fresh geranium and lily at the heart. Then the base notes of musk, oakmoss and sandalwood start to assert themselves, imparting a leathery quality. Underpinned with labdanum, a bitter resin that imparts a unique leathery note, Douro Eau de Portugal is a deep and intensely aromatic cologne."
Perfumer: M. Pickthall
"Our fine fragrances are made in England using the finest rare ingredients; from hand-squeezed bergamot, to jasmine at twice the price of gold. Our signature Penhaligon’s fragrance bottle is to William Penhaligon's original design: clear glass with a distinctive ribbon-wrapped top."

The way Douro smells to me & when mixed with my own skin's chemicals:
My very first impression of Douro was something of an extreme appliance cleaner. I couldn't put my finger on any particular cleaner it reminds me of though-- turpentine? It's very citrusy.
After applying Douro to my skin (4 swipes of the applicator) I began to notice a super citrusy scent, very manly like Verveine. The dry down smells similar to a more modern version of Stetson. My lovie says it smells exactly like Stetson, but to me, it's a better quality, plus has the lemon scent to it. It still makes me think of Stetson though.
The lavedar head notes begin to make their presence known right after the intense lemon dies down. And the end notes scream pine to me.
This is definitely the strongest Penhaligon fragrance I've smelled. It's very hard to ignore and doesn't really suit someone of my age, in my opinion. But if you are a fan of Stetson, this much better quality scent would suit you well. It's very old-school feeling to me though, so maybe it's best left for the older guys and gals.
While this cologne definitely doesn't suit me or my male partner, I do find it to be an inviting, warm scent. It's even something I could actually end up liking. You know there's things that just doesn't appeal to you, but they end up growing on you over time? This fragrance/cologne could probably grow on me after some time.
The dry down is almost peppery and clean. This cologne lasts for several hours, unlike most of the others I've tried. That's a big plus for this stuff. I have a feeling a bottle would last a fella quite a long time.
