Oatmeal Face Scrub from Dirty Beauty

If you guys have been following closely, you've probably seen my recent posts about Dirty Beauty. I shared information about their Black Soap (and how much I love that stuff!) as well as their Natural Deodorant. Now, we're onto the Oatmeal Face Scrub... Yum!

Look at the puffy little granule-thingy's in the container I posted a picture of. This Oatmeal Face Scrub is really neat. It looks and feels quite like oatmeal, but it feels more airy/puffy to me, when wet. When I used my sample of the Oatmeal Face Scrub on my face, I noticed a smell of cereal. It wasn't long before it came to me... this smells just like fruit loops! I really liked that. But it made me want fruit loops. ;) Later, my partner said "I smell cereal!" LOL.

The little oatmeal pieces in this soothing facial scrub make for a nice, gentle exfoliant and makes my skin very, very soft.

I find that the Oatmeal Face Scrub spreads well when you add some of the dry bits into your palm, then add water and apply to your face. I do a little massaging too, so it exfoliates well.  The neat thing about this stuff is if you add a small drop of water, then apply it to your face & leave it there for several minutes, it kind of works like a mask. I left it on for about 4 minutes (while washing my hair) and didn't experience any kind of irritation. However, I read that you shouldn't leave it on for longer than 45 seconds as it can cause irritation to sensitive skin.

Since the Oatmeal Face Scrub seems to have some soothing properties on the skin, I think it'd be a really good choice for sensitive skin. For extra exfoliation, I used the skin brush that came with Dirty Beauty's Black Soap, tonight when I used what was left of my Oatmeal Face Scrub. Talk about soft skin! It's a nourishing and cleansing scrub and it smells nice too -- that's hard to come by. It's also good for giving your complexion a bit more brightness to it.

The Dirty Beauty Oatmeal Face Scrub is made with organic oatmeal. Since Dirty Beauty uses natural, safe ingredients, this (or any other product of their's) is an amazing alternative to the harsh, harmful ingredients you'll find in your typical drugstore masks, scrubs and facial cleansers. Dirty Beauty uses ingredients "from the earth," and they are safe. No harsh chemicals or crap like that.

Dirty Beauty Black Soap

In the picture above, you can see the samples I've gotten from Dirty Beauty. I've already posted about their Natural Deodorant, which is shown in the photo too. Now, I want to talk about the awesome Black Soap! It comes with a skin brush, which explains why you see a brush over there on the right in this picture. The other little round container is a sample of the Oatmeal Face Scrub -- I'll talk about it soon.

Here the description of the Black Soap and Skin Brush from Dirty Beauty:
"The key ingredient in our face wash system for oily skin is Black Soap.  Black Soap is made in small villages in Africa and the recipe remains a secret.  You will see results right away and it is safe for sensitive skin.  Natural glycerin is a main ingredient in black soap.  This ingredient attracts and holds moisture to keep your skin hydrated. "

In this picture (above) you can see the little container of Dirty Beauty's Black Soap.

Instructions:

Wet face brush and swirl it into the little container of Black Soap. Apply to skin by using long, gentle strokes, avoiding the eye area. Rinse well with cool water.

Keep the lid off the black soap to let it dry and make sure to wash the brush.

Dirty Beauty says that this Black Soap really stings if it gets in your eyes, so take caution! I've avoiding getting it in mine.

As you see, I have a tiny sample of the Black Soap, but the full sized product is a 1.7 ounce jar, and of course the awesome skin brush.

As you may know, Black Soap is also called "Black African Soap," and is made from the ashes of locally harvested plants and bark such as cocoa pods, plantain, shea bark and palm tree leaves. Of course the process is much more than just this as the leaves of these plants are dried and a lot more goes into the process, but this is the gist of it. I know a lot of times oils like shea butter are added to Black Soap.

Dirty Beauty's Black Soap is made with roasted cocoa pods and palm kernel oil.

The ash of these plants have great benefits for skin, which is why Black Soap is so positively talked about.

What it Does:

Black Soap is known for its skin healing abilities, and they are mighty! It is used to heal acne, scars, eczema and it's used to help with wrinkles, fine lines, dark spots and blemishes. Although Dirty Beauty's Black soap is intended for use on the face, Black Soap is often used all over the body, including the scalp for treatment of dry skin, rashes and other irritations. I can see why people want to use it all over! I'd be using it all over too, seeing what it's done for my face in just the two uses I've had it for. It really dried out some acne spots I had and left my skin feeling amazing! It was well exfoliated and I didn't experience any dried out skin.

And the face brush! I love the face brush. It's gentle, so the bristles don't feel extremely abrasive on my skin. It feels great and I get a tingly sensation from the Black soap, so it feels like it's really doing nice things for my skin. It feels like it's cleaning deep into my pores and the lovely glow, clear complexion it left me with was amazing!

My Pearl Of The Day: Dirty Beauty Natural Deodorant

My lovely readers, I know ya'll are going to enjoy this. A lovely-smelling, natural deodorant! Rejoice!

The mini Natural Deodorant stick from Dirty Beauty is pictured there in the middle of other super amazing Dirty Beauty products. For this post, I'm going to just focus on the deodorant and later, I'll talk about why I'm loving the others.

Instructions: Apply generously to clean underarms.

Ingredients: Kaolin clay, coconut oil, beeswax, castor oil, essential oils.

The mini sample-size deodorant comes in a 0.35 oz. tube that’s just like a regular deodorant stick (roll-up and all) and since it contains coconut oil, it goes on easily and kind of melts onto your skin. Note: the full size Natural Deodorant stick is 2.6 0z.
“Natural Deodorant by Dirty Beauty Skincare is a plant based alternative to conventional anti perspirants.  This is NOT an anti perspirant.  It is a natural deodorant that is formulated to keep under arms drier and with less odor than if no deodorant is worn.
Wearing Natural Deodorant allows your body to sweat which is happy because sweating is a form of eliminating impurities.  Natural Deodorant helps keep natural body odors from becoming overstated until your next bath or shower.  You may find the need to even shower more frequently with natural deodorant especially when you first start using it.
Made with coconut oil, therapeutic clays and essential oils for natural and effective body odor control.

In order for this deodorant to work, it must be liberally applied to clean, just washed, sweet smelling skin.”

Dirty Beauty Skincare’s Natural Deodorant is a wonderful alternative to the drugstore deodorants that are filled with really harmful ingredients, which is why I wanted to try Dirty Beauty’s Natural Deodorant.

Even if I wasn’t interested in using a safe deodorant, the scent of Dirty Beauty’s Natural Deo is like heaven! I notice it smells, to me, like lavender and lemon, maybe. Definitely lavender and it’s definitely a very fresh, clean scent. It isn’t terribly strong, and I don’t constantly get whiffs of it when wearing it, but when I do, boy is it pleasant.

One reason I was really excited to talk about this deodorant is because I really wanted to put it to the test. For a long time, I’ve wanted to start using a safer deodorant after learning how harmful the drugstore stuff is, but the natural deodorants are always so much more expensive and I hesitate to buy them because I worry it won’t work as well at keeping pit odor away! So, since I have a lovely sample stick of the Dirty Beauty Natural Deo and a little of my regular ol’ harmful Dove, I wanted to really see if I could switch and wear this stuff full-time without any strange pit smells creeping up. One thing to note, though, is that I really don’t have a lot of underarm odor as it is. I will if I go without deodorant and sweat, but it isn’t ever intense.  P.S. I’ve heard of men using the Dirty Beauty Natural Deo, too, so don’t feel left out, guys! You could use it too. The scent isn’t that noticeable and certainly wouldn’t be unpleasant to most.

Anyways, so I’ve been using this Dirty Beauty Natural deodorant now & checking my arm pits to see if things still smell nice. Everything has been just perfect every day that I’ve worn it. Never have I experienced any odor. But today, since I was outside this afternoon doing a lot of sweating, I thought I’d test it. I did my sweating cleaning out the pool and that was 3 hours ago. Sniff check: 100% perfect, even right now. Yes, I actually just sniffed em’ to be totally sure! After a day in the pool using my regular Dove, I have to go wash them and re-apply because apparently, Dove just doesn’t  stand up to this Georgia heat. I was expecting to have at least a little funk since sweating out there does that to me, but was really impressed when this deodorant even kept that away.

On the other hand, I do think it's important to keep in mind what Dirty Beauty recommends when using their Natural Deodorant -- they mention (which I've posted already) that you should be sure to apply to freshly clean, nice smelling underarms and that it does not prevent perspiration.

As I said, the deodorant did really well for me, but on the third and fourth day of wearing it, I noticed some funky arm pit smell coming through. This seemed to be due to me not getting a shower before going to bed, which is rare for me. The fourth day, though, I showered during the day (not the night before) and after cleaning my underarms well, then applying it, late in the night, I did notice odor coming through. I started thinking that I either didn't apply it well enough or I over applied because I noticed most of the deodorant looked like it was on my shirt. So I've started applying and letting it dry a little before putting on my shirt -- this way it won't wipe off on my shirt.

So I have came to the conclusion, even though the NaturalDeodorants do tend to be a little more pricey than your drugstore stuff, it’s worth it (and this is coming from a total cheapie!) For me, I’ve decided that it’s worth it for my health, for one, but also noticing that the Dirty Beauty Natural Deodorant went above and beyond – performing even better than my drugstore deo, I’m okay to spend the little more on it. Also, I love that it contains coconut oil since coconut oil has some seriously amazing benefits for skin and when taken internally. Not that I will be taking this deodorant internally! Definitely don’t do that. But I seriously feel so much better when I go to put on this natural deodorant. I always kind of cringe when I swipe that Dove on my arm pits. If you don’t already know the damages caused by deodorant, I really hope you guys will look into it. I recall reading several times that the bad ingredients (I think the heavy metals) have been linked to breast cancer and much more. Yikes!
