Phenocane is another gem from the manufacturers OxyLife who you've read my
ravings about recently (specifically with their Relaxal supplement I
sampled.) I'm now onto another sample from the kind folks at OxyLife,
one called Phenocane, an herbal based supplement that has been raved
about by athletes and other folks with chronic, severe pain.
What is Phenocane Supposed to Do?
- Relieve pain and reduce joint discomfort, quickly.
- Relieve sciatic nerve pain, chronic back pain and pain caused by old sports injuries.
- Improve mobility and flexibility.
Other important points about the supplement Phenocane: Side Effects & The Ingredients that Make it Work
However, as always, I like to check up on a supplements ingredients before I use it just in case. I've had too many experiences where
negative side effects have scared me, so I did so before using
Phenocane, too. What I found was that Phenocane appears very safe, but using the ingredient Nattokinase could pose an issue for those with certain disorders or certain medications. From what I read, it's typically considered safe as long as no anticoagulants are being used along with it.
As for the side effects and interferences, according to WebMD, there is a warning for those with bleeding disorders & so it can interfere with anticoagulants:
Nattokinase:
"Nattokinase seems to act like a “clot thinner” and might make bleeding disorders worse. Use with caution. Nattokinase can decrease blood clotting. Taking nattokinase along with medications that also slow clotting might increase the chances of bruising and bleeding.
Some medications that slow blood clotting include aspirin, clopidogrel
(Plavix), diclofenac (Voltaren, Cataflam, others), ibuprofen (Advil,
Motrin, others), naproxen (Anaprox, Naprosyn, others), dalteparin
(Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, warfarin (Coumadin), and
others."
Nattokinase is an extract of the Japanese food that goes by the name of "natto." Natto itself comes from fermented (with Bacillis) soybeans and actually does has its own host of awesome health benefits, but I came across some information that said it can also interfere with
Nattokinase is used for pain such as that caused by endometriosis (which is something I suffered with for years, and still do at times), uterine fibroids, muscle spasms (a very painful problem associated with IBS, too) fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, infertility, cancer, and a vitamin-deficiency disease called beriberi.
The ingredient Nattokinase has other health benefits as well. It thins the blood, reduces the bloods ability to clot, thereby possibly acting as a protectant against heart attack and stroke. It's used for angina, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, hemorrhoids, varicose veins, deep vein thrombosis, PAD and more.
The other ingredients in the Phenocane supplement include Curcumin, Boswellia, and an amino acid called "Phenylalanine."
Boswellia:
Boswellia -- also known as "Indian Frankincense," an effective painkiller -- is a tree that's well-known for its anti-inflammatory properties. In fact, on Oxy Life's website, they cite a study which showed that Boswellia relieves inflammation.
(Source: European Journal of Herbal Medicine, Volume 3, Issue 11, 1998: “Effects
of Boswellia serrata gum resin in patients with bronchial asthma:
results of a double-blind, placebo-controlled, 6-week clinical study” by I. Gupta I, V. Gupta V, A. Parihar, et al (Pharmazeutisches Institut of the University of Tübingen, Germany).
It's been used to help manage the pain of inflammatory bowel disease, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, among others.
Phenylalanine
Phenylalanine is an amino acid that may be useful to relieve chronic pain.
Curcumin:
Excerpted from the Oxy Life website:
According to the USDA Nutrient Database, a one-ounce serving (28g) of Turmeric -- the beneficial part of "curcumin," which comes from ginger -- provides:
- 24% of the adult Recommended Daily Allowance of Fiber
- 64% of the RDA for Iron
- 12% of the RDA for Vitamin C
Health benefits of these nutrients:
- Dietary Fiber is necessary and useful for digestive health and for regularity.
- Iron is key for helping your body use oxygen
- Vitamin C is a natural antioxidant that's crucial to health
More on How Phenocane Works:
What stood out to me about the supplement Phenocane while reading the brochure sent to me along with the supplement from OxyLife was their extensive information on how something called prostaglandin and COX1 and 2 work in the body. The brochure actually taught me a lot about pain that I never knew, and it just further proved my impression of OxyLife -- that these folks really are educated on their stuff, and the products they create for various health ailments are highly backed-up with research.

To
give you a better idea of what I mean by this, I've typed up an excerpt
-- which is very interesting and likely going to be of interest to my
readers as well -- found in the Phenocane brochure because I am not
confident that I could really get this stuff correct if I tried
explaining from my very own words.
"Inflammation is the most
common cause of pain. Inflammation is caused by the release of PGE1
prostaglandin, and sustained by an enzyme, which is called COX2. It is
interesting that cancer cells are surrounded by an abnormally heavy
concentration of COX2 enzymes.
If one could inhibit [stop from occurring] COX2 enzymes, they could control inflammation and possibly cancer. (This is substantiated by evidence of less cancers among chronic Aspirin users.)
However, as the brochure explains, long term use of aspirin products tend to have negative, serious side-effects. So, that's where COX1 enzymes come in:
"COX1 is a Protective Prostaglandin, which provides protection to the digestive lining and blood vessels. Without adequate COX1, you can have ulcers and leaking of blood vessels."
So, OxyLife realized that an anti-inflammatory product could be found that inhibited COX2 without negative side effects, the cause of pain could be stopped.
And that's where OxyLife steps in -- creating a supplement that uses natural ingredients to provide "fast relief," with no side effects.

As you can read on the brochure image, Phenocane comes in vegetarian capsules and the other, inactive ingredients include: Magnesium Stearate, Vegetable capsules. That's all! A very good thing that there are no extra, odd and senseless additives like artificial coloring!
