Hello hello everyone! It has been a while, so I hope everyone had an amazing Thanksgiving, for those of you in the US.
About a month ago, I was introduced to this new supplement product -- thank you, Seabuck Wonders! -- that I've been learning about, and taking for the past few weeks and I want to share it with you guys. This forskolin product and the herb itself was completely new to me, but I've been learning a lot about it and will start by sharing what it is, what its benefits are and so on.
The supplement products I've been taking (and my mom has) are Forskohlii, also known as "forskohlin" as well as a few other names such as coleous, false boldo, makandi, indian coleous.
The on in the black & blue bottle is called Forskohlii Diet Fuel, and the other I'll talk about in a different post, since this one is lengthy is Forskohlii Power. I'll explain what they are all about in a moment. These are both from Twin Lab.
Forskohlii Power is just the herb. Nothing but the herb put into a capsule.
Now, before moving on, I want to share a photo of the Forskoholii Diet Fuel supplements and bottle...
And lastly, the photo right above is the actual supplements. They're in clear capsules, just like your typical herbal supplement.
The bottle of Forskohlii Diet Fuel comes with 60 capsules. The bottle says "250 mg a day."
How to take them
The bottle says to take one capsule twice daily 20-30 minutes before a meal.
What is Forskohlii
We've already discussed the names of the coleus forskohlii plant, but I'll go into deeper detail, for those interested. Coleus Forskohlii is the plant which forskolin is derived from. It's a member of the mint family and often times, when I open the bottle of Diet Fuel, I'll notice a faint smell of mint. The plant grows in Nepal India and Thailand.
Below is a photo of the Coleus Forskohlii plant
Research on Forskohlii
Forskohlii has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for 3,000 years. Some of its uses include asthma, heart and lung conditions, lower blood pressure, bronchitis, skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, etc. It has also been used to treat angina, epilepsy, insomnia, decrease muscle spasms as well as treating menstrual cramps, irritable bowel syndrome (I've suffered from that for years and years and have only gotten better within the last 2 years!), I'd also like to include that this herb is also used to treat bladder infections, urinary tract infections, and hypertension. That's a pretty impressive list of benefits there!
Forskohlii is used in eye drops to to reduce pressure in those with glaucoma.
Forskohlii, when taken internall, stimulates digestion and is thought to assist in absorption of nutrients in the small intestine.
Coleus works as an anti-bronchodilator with anti-histamine properties, which explains why it's useful for treating conditions such as asthma and other allergies.
It increases the amount of blood pumped into the heart, reducing the risks of blood clots, and coleus causes the arterial walls to relax, which lowers high blood pressure.
How it works
I'm going to quote another source (Herbal-Supplement Resource) on this one. Herbal-Supplement Resource explains how Forskohlin works saying that it does so by "breaking down adipose tissue and preventing production of fatty tissue. In addition, coleus mildly stimulates the metabolism by increasing thyroid hormones and increases the secretion of insulin. These therapeutic indications for coleus are due to its principal active compound, a diterpenoid called forskolin. This is the only plant derived compound known to directly stimulate the enzyme, adenlylate cyclase, and in turn, stimulates cellular cyclic AMP which boosts our metabolism."
Forskohlii Diet Fuel is clinically tested, and contains 10% standardized forskohlii.
The bottle describes The Forskohlii Diet Fuel as "combines clinically-tested levels of three weight management nutrients to help lose weight and gain energy. Coleus Forskohlii supports weight management with this traditional ayurvedic herb. Green tea extract boosts energy and focus with this powerful thermogenic. Chromium is a critical trace mineral that helps you burn fat.
Warnings
For some people, Forskohlii can increase the amount of acid in the stomach, so for those who suffer from heartburn or ulcers should be very careful about taking this.
The bottle of Forskohlii Diet Fuel advises against pregnant or nursing women taking this supplement, and also advises to consult a physician if you're taking other medications. Not recommended by those under 18 (without parental permission).
It's also a good idea to keep in mind that this supplement contains 50mg of caffeine, so if you're caffeine-sensitive, take note! Also, it says to discontinue use 2 weeks prior to having any surgeries. And of course, always keep out of reach of children!
Ingredients
Forskohlii Diet Fuel contains the following:
Chromium (as chromium polynicotinate) - 200 mcg - 166% Daily Value.
Forskohlii (root) Extract - 125 mg - Standardized for 10% Forskohlin.
Green Tea (leaf) Extract - 344 mg (standardized for EGCG & caffeine)
Other ingredients: Gelatin, caffeine, medium chain triglycerides, magnesium stearate.
My experience so far with Forskohlii Diet Fuel
I began taking these Forskohlii products back in November, which was last month, around the 20-somethingth. I first began taking only one of the Forskohlii Diet Fuel that day, not following up with the second dose during night time, because I like to take things very slow when I'm new to them. Everything went super well. I had no side effects, and I have to be extremely careful because a lot of supplement (even hard vitamins sometimes!) can really upset my stomach. The next day, I took the recommended two doses and a few days later, suspected that I accidentally took three in one day! I don't know when I slipped the third one by accident, but I believe I did. However, I had no ill-side effects.
Tonight though, I noticed it may be best for me to eat a little something before taking the Diet Fuel. I can't really say for sure if it was the Diet Fuel, though because I hardly ever eat right before taking the first dose and have never had issues. But tonight, about 45 minutes after taking my second dose, I felt a smidgen nauseaus. I ate a few french fries and it totally went away, so I might at least recommend abiding by the directions (taking one right before a meal.)
Performance-wise, the Forskohlii products are quite impressive! I work out, some. Ha. Ha. I do try to do some working out on my fitness pole at least once a week, but was severely slacking since it was so hot over the summer, and now I'm trying to get back into a schedule with it. I didn't expect anything when I first started taking the supplements. I just took them and went about my business, almost forgetting I'd taken them. But it occurred to me that I was getting a lot more energy. A lot! I normally wear smack out after 10 minutes on the pole -- I know, sounds wimpy, but that thing will kick your butt a lot quicker than yoga going for a run or lifting weights -- and let me tell you! I'm just now getting back on my pole since LAST winter (I skipped it all summer) and I was lasting longer than I did last winter! I figured I'd be pooped after 5 minutes since I've skipped so long, but I can climb up and down that thing like I've been doing it for a year. And don't even get me started on arm wrestling with my lovie -- boy is he feeling like a weakling these days! Okay, I can't completely beat him, but he actually has to work to fight my little arm down lately. I have a lot more endurance.
Back to the energy. I wouldn't say Forskohlii Diet Fuel will have you cleaning your house spotless, and taking up poling, but it will perk up your energy levels. I made the mistake of taking one while having a bottle of Mio (a flavored water enhancer that has energy stuffs in it) and holy sweet mother of pearl! Once I'd finished the Mio and the Forskohlin was down, I never shut my mouth. So all week, I've wanted to take the Diet Fuel right before work or like today, before doing some wear-you-out house chores to see if it alone is giving me energy. I did two loads of laundry, cleaned the entire house, cooked & went to work. And it's 1:17 AM and here I am. I woke up at 12PM today. Normally I'd be knocked out right now, so I do notice energy from it. It could be the caffeine, but I'm a coffee drinker and BC powder taker (migraines) so I'm surprised I notice any energy from this. It won't keep you awake, but it does make me more likely to get things done. Just an idea for you: I have not done two loads of laundry in years -- since I was a teenager! Heck, I usually don't even do laundry every month. My lovie has been doing my laundry for months now because I'm rarely finding time and he's just that nice. But today, there was no stopping this lady. No coffee, no Mio, no BC powder. Only a dose of Forskohlin after a good night's sleep and I wasn't feeling like a slacker.
Diet Fuel is something I recommend to those who do a little working out or exercise. It just really seems like it helps with endurance, although I don't know for sure if it's supposed to. I could be experiencing this extra endurance and stuff from something else? I don't know what, but it only seems to be there after taking it. Plus, if you're already exercising, the Diet Fuel will absolutely enhance the burned fat. I can't say I've lost pounds yet, as I've not been weighed since... 2 weeks ago, I think? It was on a Monday, but not last Monday, so probably the Monday before. Anyways, I weighed 107, which has been my normal weight for the past 3 months.
I would also recommend the Forskohlii products for those trying to lose weight. My mom has been trying very hard (and succeeding well) to lose weight for about 5 months now. She's definitely dropped some pounds! She won't give me exact numbers, but she's at least lost 10-15 pounds. She began taking the Forskohlii right when I did and is really liking it. She hasn't weighed herself to tell me if she's actually lost pounds in the last few weeks, but she is slimming down a lot. The things she's been doing besides taking the supplements is eating better -- she's been eating those pre-made Smart Choice meals while at work, and cooking when she goes home and having a small portion. She said she's been having things like fish, spaghetti (she loves that crap!) and lots of vegetables, but will also have a burger here and there. Besides the little changes in eating and taking Forskohlii, she's not made any huge changes to her lifestyle. She drinks Diet Coke (one-three glasses, I'd say) in the evening, but drinks nothing but water the rest of the time. That is nothing new though, she's always drank nothing but water ever since I can remember! She said she bought some water flavoring last week to stop the coke cravings, and she said that worked like a charm -- strawberry kiwi is her preferred flavor.
I for one am a Dr. Pepper fan, but since October, I decided to cut down big time. One because I don't want to cause worse issues with my teeth and two because I desperately need to get in the habit of drinking water again for my overall health. So adding in Mio water-enhancer has been a big help. I've cut down my Dr. Pepper intake in half. I'd normally have 2-3 a day and now I have one. Except today. I've not drank water today because I didn't have any. Seriously, I didn't because I hate tap-water (ours taste like pool water, must be really chlorinated) and didn't have any bottled, so I had to boil some, which wasn't cooled down for what seemed like decades, so I've just not had any.
Anyways, those are the only real changes we've made to our lifestyles. I've cut down some on the Dr. Pepper, took my fitness pole back up and am getting back into some yoga slowly but surely. My mom has quit eating fast food and started getting those Smart Choice things and cut down on the little coke she did drink. And we've added Forskohlii into our lives! So, we'll both continue the journey and see how it continues to go. I'm definitely optimistic about it. I could see myself really losing some quick few pounds if it keeps going this way. Having the energy and motivation to get to working out is making such a big difference that I know I'll see some achievements, without a doubt. And if you guys are inerested, I'll even come back and update in a brief period.

Forskohlii was recently found to aid in weight loss, let me share a quote from Live Strong: "One small double-blind study indicates that a concentrated
forskolin extract might increase the rate of "fat burning," thereby
potentially enhancing weight loss."
According to LifeScript.com, "In 1974, work performed in
collaboration with the Indian Central Drug Research Institute found that the
rootstock of Coleus forskohlii could lower blood pressure and decrease muscle
spasms. Intensive study identified a substance named forskolin that appeared to
be responsible for much of this effect."
And for you Oz fans out there, Dr. Oz has discussed Forskohlii too! Here's a video to see what he has to say on it: http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/miracle-flower-fight-fat

I noticed in a previous blog you were trying safslim. Were you taking it at the same time as this product or did you stop safslim first? Did you weight loss results with both or was one better than the other? Also, thanks for you post on Maca powder, I purchased some today from The Root if the Matter.
